The Pig and the Chicken at Breakfast

The Pig and the Chicken at Breakfast

Pig and chicken

You know, I was thinking… about Bob.

We were filming him for a Heritage Film when he told me the pig-and-chicken story. I’d heard it before, but I sat there like I hadn’t.

If you’re not familiar, a pig and a chicken are walking down the road. The chicken says, “Let’s open a restaurant.” The pig says, “What would we call it?” The chicken says, “Ham and Eggs.” The pig thinks a second and says, “No thanks. You’d be involved. I’d be committed.”

In Bob’s telling, it started with his partner. His partner was the chicken. He brought capital. Bob brought capital too, and the muscle, and the sweat.

A decade in, Bob bought the chicken out.

This wasn’t some kids running a lemonade stand in a subdivision. It was a chemical engineering company. International. But at the root of it was one guy who brought cash, and another guy, Bob, who brought cash and effort.

About a decade in Bob bought out the chicken and took the company to the moon. It got Yuge. And by Bob’s telling, it would’ve gotten yuge years prior had he not partnered with a chicken.

My team is a buncha pigs. Pigs who care about the outcome. Pigs who lose sleep over the details. Pigs who stay late because the damned thing isn’t right yet.

Every Heritage Film we make carries our name. If the interview is bad, that’s on us. If the edit doesn’t land, that’s on us. If a family trusts us with the most personal story they have and we don’t do it justice, that’s a our name is on this and we failed them problem.

I’d rather work with one pig than ten chickens. Oink oink.

Heritage Films produces personal documentary films across the United States. If someone in your family has a story worth keeping, we’d love to hear it.
